If you use the Extract Location Only option, you can let the application process files sequentially without having to supervise the scanning process. The process will automatically complete after all the files have been processed.

This is not the case when using the Extract Location and Coordinate System option. When processing a file and successfully extracting coordinate system information from the scanned file, a request is made to the ProjectWise server to try and find the matching coordinate system in the coordinate system repository.

The query can yield the following results:

• No matching coordinate system was found in the repository, in which case no spatial location will be created for the document because it does not have a valid coordinate system.

• One matching coordinate system was found in the repository and this coordinate system already exists in the datasource, either because it was added through ProjectWise Administrator or it was created during previous Spatial Location Scanning sessions. In this case, the spatial location for the scanned file can be created without user intervention if the Scan Action for this coordinate system is set to Always Use or Replace.

• One matching coordinate system was found in the repository and this coordinate system does not exist in the ProjectWise datasource. When this is the case, the Specify Coordinate System Settings dialog opens and allows to choose which coordinate system to use and which scan action to store for this coordinate system.

• More than one matching coordinate system was found in the repository. In this case, the Specify Coordinate System Settings dialog opens.

• Only one matching coordinate system was found, it also exists in the active ProjectWise datasource and its associated Scan Action is set to Ask. In this case, the Specify Project Settings dialog opens as well if it is the first time, within the active scan session, that the Spatial Location Scanning tool comes across this coordinate system. If it is not the first time the engine comes across this coordinate system within the current session, it will simply use it.
